What is ABS board
ABS board is an emerging material in the sheet metal industry. Its full name is acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer board, which is a polymer with high production and wide applications. It organically unifies the various properties of PS, SAN, and BS, and implements excellent mechanical properties that balance toughness, hardness, and rigidity.
Characteristics of ABS board
1. Has excellent mechanical properties, excellent impact strength, and can be used at extremely low temperatures; ABS has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability, and oil resistance, and can be used for bearings under moderate loads and speeds. The creep resistance of ABS is greater than that of PSF and PC, but smaller than that of PA and POM. The bending strength and compression strength of ABS are relatively poor among plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are greatly affected by temperature.
2. Not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis, and various acids, but soluble in ketones, aldehydes, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Corrosion by acetic acid, vegetable oils, and other substances can cause stress cracking. ABS has poor weather resistance and is prone to degradation under the action of ultraviolet light; After six months outdoors, the impact strength decreased by half.
3. Excellent impact strength, good dimensional stability, good dyeing, molding and mechanical processing, high mechanical strength, high stiffness, low water absorption, good corrosion resistance, simple connection, non-toxic and odorless, with excellent chemical and electrical insulation properties. It can withstand heat without deformation and also has high impact toughness under low temperature conditions. It is still a hard, scratch resistant, and deformation resistant material. Low water absorption; High dimensional stability. Conventional ABS board is not very white, but it has excellent toughness and can be cut with a shearing machine or punched with a mold.
4. Low temperature resistance, the hot deformation temperature of ABS sheet is 93-118 ℃, and the product can be increased by about 10 ℃ after annealing treatment. ABS can still exhibit certain toughness at -40 ℃ and can be used within the temperature range of -40~100 ℃. Among them, transparent ABS board has excellent transparency and good polishing effect, making it the primary choice material to replace PC board. Compared to acrylic, it has excellent toughness and can meet the requirements for meticulous processing of products.
Application of ABS board
1. In the field of household appliances. ABS board can be used as the outer shell and internal components of appliances such as television, radio, washing machine, refrigerator, telephone, air conditioner, etc.
2. Automotive parts. Using ABS plastic sheet to make automotive parts such as shells, adjustment handles, door linings, control switch knobs, conduits, etc. Mainly using ABS for impact resistance, such as strength, stiffness, and formability. The accessories include mudguards, handrails, ventilation covers, supports, buffer expansion plates, etc.
3. Office equipment. Utilizing the excellent impact resistance, rigidity, dimensional stability, and formability of ABS board, it is both economical and practical to manufacture various office equipment casings. Office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, typewriters, and computer monitors have higher fire resistance requirements, so flame retardant ABS is generally used in the preferred order.
4. Mechanical ABS plastic shells can be used to produce mechanical equipment and general mechanical components. Such as water tanks, electrical cabinet shells, battery tanks, gear bearings, pump impeller mold models and fasteners, bolts, cover plates.
5. Mold model. Due to its superior processing performance, light weight, and low price, ABS plastic has been widely used in the manufacturing of household appliances, automobiles, mechanical equipment, and testing instrument mold models in recent years. At present, the world's advanced 3D prototypes made using ABS as the standard material allow you to create the appearance, suitability, and related function models of any new product you want to test, as well as a machine with flying dimensions. Has good cost-effectiveness among similar products.
Production process of ABS board
The production process of ABS board can be divided into upstream and downstream processes.
Upstream processes refer to melting, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, etc., which are the same as other high-precision plates and strips.
Downstream processes refer to heat treatment, surface treatment, stretch bending correction, lubricant coating, longitudinal and transverse cutting, precision cutting, and deep processing. Its downstream processes are much more complex and involve many more procedures than other high-precision plate strips. It can be simplified as: unwinding heat treatment, air cushion furnace (can be heated by fuel, electricity or electromagnetic induction) solid solution treatment (temperature 500~600 ℃) or annealing, water quenching/air quenching surface treatment (cleaning and transformation treatment) - bending car - lubricant coating - coiling, etc.
The difference between ABS board and PVC board
1. Raw material: ABS board is made of acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer board; PVC board is a type of vacuum formed film.
2. Application: ABS board is widely used in food industry parts, building models, prototype production, phased electronic industry components, refrigerator refrigeration industry, electronic and electrical fields, pharmaceutical industry, automotive parts, etc; PVC board is widely used in chemical, petroleum, electroplating, water purification equipment, environmental protection equipment, mining, medicine, electronics, communication, and decoration industries.
