Vacuum forming for bus interior parts is a processing technology based on thermoplastic molding. Its core principle is to soften plastic sheets by heating, then using vacuum suction to conform them to the mold's contours. After cooling and solidification, the resulting parts are manufactured into the desired bus interior components. It is one of the most widely used core processes in bus interior production, adapting to the large size and diverse specifications required for bus interiors.
The core process is clear and orderly, balancing practicality and standardization. First, the raw materials are pre-treated, primarily using ABS sheets. Some transparent parts, such as speaker covers, use plexiglass. Damp sheets must be dried to prevent bubbles and cracking during molding. Next, the mold is installed, adjusted, and preheated to approximately 60°C. The plastic sheets are then heated to approximately 120°C to soften them. After being fixed by a pressure frame, vacuum suction (0.6-0.9 atmospheres) is used to conform the sheet to the mold. After cooling for 2 minutes, the parts are demolded, and finally, the edges are trimmed to complete the finished product.
Compared to processes such as injection molding, vacuum forming for bus interior parts has significant advantages. The mold investment cost is only 5%-20% of that of injection molds, making it suitable for the small annual production volume and rapid update of interior parts in buses, and flexibly meeting customer customization needs. At the same time, this process is suitable for producing large-size components, such as the inner roof panel and driver's cab side panels, and can achieve textures such as faux leather through composite materials, enhancing the interior's quality.
Today, vacuum forming technology is increasingly mature in bus interior production, appearing on everything from driver's cab side panels and electrical box covers to dashboard surfaces. During production, strict control of heating temperature and vacuum pressure is required to avoid problems such as uneven sheet thickness and surface scratches. Proper mold cleaning and maintenance are also essential to extend the mold's lifespan. With technological advancements, the application of composite ABS sheets is becoming increasingly widespread, further improving the feel and durability of interior parts. This process, characterized by low cost, high flexibility, and strong adaptability, not only meets the functional requirements of bus interiors but also contributes to the development of more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing interiors, becoming an indispensable and important process in the bus manufacturing industry.
