In the interior design of buses, material selection directly impacts passenger safety and riding experience. Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets, with their unique performance advantages, have become one of the core materials in interior manufacturing. As a composite material combining flame retardancy, toughness, and processability, it plays multiple roles in bus interiors, including safety protection, functional adaptation, and experience optimization, building a solid safety barrier for long-distance travel. Especially in the globalized bus manufacturing system, its performance aligns better with internationally accepted safety and quality requirements.

Safety protection is the most crucial function of flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets. As a densely populated public transportation vehicle, the speed of fire spread and the amount of toxic gas released directly determine the success rate of escape in the event of a fire. Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets, with the addition of highly effective flame retardants, can quickly form a carbonized layer upon contact with open flame, acting as a "firewall" to block the spread of flames and control the burning rate at an extremely low level. This process effectively slows the spread of fire, buying passengers 3-5 precious minutes of escape time. In a fire accident, the first few minutes are often the key to life and death. Meanwhile, the concentration of toxic gases (such as carbon monoxide and cyanide) released during combustion is far lower than that of ordinary plastics. Data shows that under the same combustion conditions, the amount of toxic gases released by flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets is only 1/4 that of ordinary PP plastics, which can significantly reduce the risk of poisoning and further improve passenger safety.

In terms of practical performance, flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets perfectly meet the complex needs of bus interiors and can even meet the challenges of use in different climate zones. Bus interiors need to withstand frequent friction (such as contact between passenger clothing and seat backs), temperature changes (summer temperatures can reach above 60°C, and winter temperatures can drop as low as -20°C), and minor collisions (such as impacts when luggage is placed). Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets have excellent impact resistance and wear resistance-their impact strength is 2-3 times that of ordinary plastics, and they can still maintain good toughness and are not easily broken even in low temperatures of -30°C; the surface hardness can reach Rockwell hardness R100 or higher, which can resist daily wear and tear, extend the service life of interior parts, and reduce later maintenance costs. Furthermore, its excellent formability is a key advantage. It can be processed through various techniques such as injection molding, vacuum forming, and hot pressing to create complex-shaped components like dashboard housings, seat back panels, side interior trim panels, luggage racks, and air conditioning vents, meeting the diverse design needs of bus interiors. More importantly, its density is only 1.05-1.15 g/cm³, and its weight is only one-third that of traditional metal materials (such as aluminum alloy). If each bus uses flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets to replace traditional metal interior parts, the overall vehicle weight can be reduced by 50-80 kg, helping to reduce vehicle energy consumption and operating costs. At the same time, the material has a smooth surface and a certain degree of stain resistance; common stains (such as beverage stains and dust) can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth, reducing the workload of cleaning staff and maintaining a clean interior environment.

Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets also deeply align with the international compliance requirements and development trends of the bus industry. Currently, global standards for flame retardant materials in motor vehicle interiors are becoming increasingly stringent. Among internationally accepted standards, ECE R118 explicitly requires that the horizontal burning rate of bus interior materials must not exceed 100 mm/min, and that excessive toxic or harmful gases must not be produced during combustion. FMVSS 302 also stipulates that the horizontal burning rate of interior materials must be ≤102 mm/min, and that continuous combustion must not occur during vertical burning. Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets, through optimized formulations, fully meet these mandatory international standards, making them an inevitable choice for multinational bus manufacturers seeking compliant production, and clearing material compliance obstacles for bus products entering the global market. With the increasing prevalence of new energy buses, the industry's demand for vehicle lightweighting and safety is further increasing-the driving range of new energy buses is closely related to the overall vehicle weight; for every 100 kg reduction in weight, the driving range can be increased by 5-8 km. Flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets, through continuous formula optimization (such as adding glass fiber reinforcement or mineral fillers), maintain excellent flame-retardant properties while further reducing material density, achieving the dual goals of "lightweight + high safety." This helps improve the range of new energy buses and promotes the industry's development towards a green and low-carbon direction.

From safety protection to practical compatibility, and further to international compliance and industry innovation, flame-retardant ABS plastic sheets play an indispensable role in bus interiors. They empower travel safety with technology, optimize the riding experience with performance, and break down geographical barriers with international standard compatibility. They have become a crucial support for the bus manufacturing industry in ensuring public safety and promoting global industry upgrades, building a solid "invisible defense line" for millions of passengers' cross-regional journeys.
